UP CLOSE N PERSONAL

1. Upclose and Personal was our theme. How did you develop your ideas for this project and why did you choose your subject?
2. How did you demonstrate Emphasis in your work?
3. What medium did you decide to use and why did you choose this medium over the others? Discuss how it enhances your piece.
We encourage risk taking in art. Risk taking can be as simple as trying a new technique or learning about a new medium to as complex as trying something totally new.
4.. Did you take any risks with this project? Explain.

5. Of the 5 characteristics of great art (technique, concept, emotion, new, medium) which did you include in your art?

I had two ideas for this project; this tree stump and a close up of a pearl necklace. I chose this one because i had better colors available, i wasn't sure how i would have made good looking skin tones with the available pastels.  I originally was just going to do a close up of a tree stump without any trees around it but i remembered an art project i did in a painting class when i was in elementary school and i incorporated that. i chose chalk pastels because i had worked with them earlier at sparkcon and while using them i thought "wow i want to use these again on an art project.".
I tried to emphasize the colors in the tree stump but you can't really tell because everything else is so colorful as well. I do believe i took risks with color, i layered lots of different colors, even ones i knew generally do not mix well, and i am happy with the way it turned out. I think that i included technique and medium in this piece, i used vertical and horizontal lines on purpose to show length and shape, and i used chalk pastels which are a new medium for me.
